The Celtic Festival of Beltaine which marks the beginning of summer in the ancient Celtic calendar is a Cross Quarter Day, half way between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, this falls the week of the retreat. In irish mythology great bonfires of Beal-tine would mark a time of purification and transition. To mark this celebration and transitional time of year we will once again focus our attention on the idea of inner heat and intention (tapas)*.
Excess dampness and stagnation builds up in the cooler weather of winter and spring, ready to be melted away with heat in preparation for the months ahead. Summer becomes a time for blossoming vitality and as we are charged by the sun and all is in bloom. However during the summer months our inner fire can become easily burnt out or depleted and result in imbalances. With mindful dynamic and flowing practices and traditional yogic Kriyas (cleanses) we will work on building up heat slowly and safely while remaining firmly connected to our centre, this will allow us to move forward with the intention of remaining both balanced and abundantly strong right throughout the season and beyond.
Join us in the magnificent period house, originally built as a hunting lodge for Lord Carbery in 1830. with roaring fires, bay windows looking over the lake and forests, plenty of quiet features and corners to get lost in and while away hours of restful time and complete immersion in nature.
The weekend will host a total of 10 hours of blissful dynamic vinyasa and restorative hatha vinyasa yoga, pranayama, meditation and some gentle traditional Kriyas
There is a small row boat for use by guests, Bridget can provide picnics to take on the lake by request...!
As an optional 'add' on for this particular retreat we will work with our friends at Atlantic Sea Kayaking to spend some time 'on' the lake at night time in kayaks. This will be the perfect opportunity to safely spend time exploring the infinite possibilities of the expansive sea and sky above and below simultaneously, last year it was a massive hit....
We also have a masseuse on site practicing deep tissue and aromatherapy massage for those that wish to avail
